What a great setting for a fun Southern Summer Party-the home of Andrea and Brent Bell, at the Home-on-the-Hill at Darlington School in Rome, Georgia. Andrea and Brent welcomed 10 guests who purchased this party at Darlington’s annual fundraiser , the Purple Tie Affair. Chef James Boyce, ( Cotton Row, Commerce Kitchen, Galley and Garden and Pane E Vino), made the night extra special for all of the guests! Food, wine, flowers and great company seem to be the perfect recipe!
This was such a fun party to help with. Not only arranging the flowers, but also catching up with a special friend! I wish that I could have stayed for the party and met all of their new friends and seen Jimmy in action!
My Dad attended Darlington as a PG year- post graduate. I’m assuming his parents did not think he was ready to tackle the University of Alabama quite yet, so after graduation from Anniston High School he headed over to Rome. I’ve heard lots of stories about this year, but this was the first time for me to see the campus. Beautiful! He recently told me that the tuition for his year(1953), boarding included was $500! Andrea and Brent have copies of all of the yearbooks- and look what we found! He was a baller in his belted uniform! ha. This just made it even more fun!
Andrea’s dining room is so pretty. Any color flowers would work in here. I was so excited that we could use dahlias and zinnias and other cut flowers from Brosemer Farm, in Huntsville, Alabama. Also, these containers are becoming regulars of mine- from Anthropologie and come in gold as well.
Peaches seemed like a natural fruit to add- we were in Georgia!
Candlelight added the perfect touch to the table as well as the simple place cards and beautiful linens.
All of the world’s problems should be solved in a kitchen! Good friends catching up and maybe talking about a new workout craze they are into.
Looks like the party was a success- smiles all around! Looking forward to my next visit back to Rome!

Thank you!!You are a Georgia girl now- I think you need some peaches for your next party!
Your flowers are beautiful! My sister retired from teaching at Darlington. I spent a lot of time at Darlington as a teenager when it was an all boys school. It has a beautiful campus. I didn’t know that your dad spent a year there. It was pretty common back then for boys from public school to do a year of PG at Darlington.
Thank you so much. I loved finding the pictures of Dad in the yearbook. My kids loved seeing it too!
Such gorgeous work and so beautifully put together!
Thank you so much. I hope we get to see each other this year!
